Momma

My attention slowly drifted

As she mattered happily

About something I can hardly recall

To the features I seldom paid attention to

To her thick black hair, which surprisingly had no hint of graying

To her face, which unlike mine was as smooth as that of a baby

And her eyes

Beautiful ebony eyes sitting perfectly at their sockets

With tiny wrinkles resting around them

Probably the only testament of the years she wore under her sleeve

As I looked closer into her eyes

I could tell that they a lot had to tell

A lot of stories

Stories of the past

Stories of happy times

And Sad times

Stories of disappointment and heartaches

But most importantly

In those eyes

I saw love

I saw love

I saw the love of a woman who gave up her whole life

Her dreams, her desires

Her happiness

In order to meet the dreams, the desires

And the happiness of her children

A woman who went to work everyday

And worked with a hungry stomach

So that her children would have bread at the table

Everyday

Love of a woman who wore the same clothes and shoes

Year in, Year out

But walked into a boutique year in year out

To buy the same for her five beautiful children

Oblivious of her own need

Love of a woman who wore the suit of breadwinner

Father,

Mother,

Friend

Career advisor

As the situation demanded

Love of a woman who will readily give up

Her plate of food

Her comforts

Her job

Her life, even, for the sake of her children

A woman

Who when asked for money that she might not have

By one of her children

Will draw a wide smile on her face

And calmly say, ‘that’s what you want? Don’t worry baby, I’ll get it for you’

And getting it, she will

A woman who every morning

Since I was born

I hear

At the crack of dawn

Praying for her children

Each by name

Without fail

Momma

These words will never be enough

Calling and texting you everyday

Will never be enough

Sending you money

And buying a house in Runda (which we will, soon)

Will never be enough

But we hope that everyday

You will be reminded of how much we treasure, love and respect you

To the world you might be no one

But to us, the five shiny arrows in your quiver,

Whom you’ve brought up with immense love and care,

YOU ARE THE WORLD

Momma and her five arrows….

Happy Mother’s Day Momma!!!!

Sorry. I meant read Psalms 127:3-5. “Behold children are a gift from God, and the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are children of ones youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate”. KJV

And God saw that she was too much a blessing to be called mama by only five. He keeps on adding more arrows to her quiver. I am blessed to call her mama. Wonderful dedication dear.
