The First Night

He lay there; deep asleep, unaware of what was happening.

The father knew. He knew that had he allowed him to stay ‘awake’ now that the awareness of his need for a partner had been awakened- hell would have broken loose.

In a few days, Adam would have probably embarked on a journey through Eden- checking out the sisters in the worship team, going out on blind dates, listening in to conversations, attending singles conferences.

So God put him into a deep sleep and while he rested, the father formed the most beautiful being for him, and from him.

And beautiful she was- a sight to behold, the definition of perfection.

After forming her, He put her beside him.

As she sat there, looking at this beautiful creation, her heart began to race, chills running up and down her spine.

Everything about him was perfect. His radiant face that looked like the first glimpse of the sun at dawn, his well built arms that looked like rods of gold, his perfect chest that made her fingers itch to reach out and touch. He looked like a sleeping angel- magnificent.

“I’m waking him up now” the father said, starling her out of her deep thoughts.

“Ooh… Okay” She responded and immediately sat up straight, and ran her fingers through her long luscious hair attempting to fix it.

“Do I look okay?” She asked.

God took one deep piercing look into her eyes, and responded,

You are perfect my child. Perfect!”

She smiled shyly, her face turning red and immediately, a deep confidence arose within her. His assurance was enough, and she would come to learn that God’s assurance of who she was, how she looked, what she did was what she would always need. Adams’ assurance would never be enough.

“Thank you father.” She responded. “I’m ready”

Slowly, his eyes opened, a small frown forming on his forehead. He was trying to figure out what had happened to him. Something had happened but he couldn’t tell what. One of his side ribs felt especially abnormal. Like something had been taken out.

He sat up and let out a yawn.

“What happened?” He asked.

The father didn’t respond. So he began to look around as he stretched out his body. And when he turned to his side, he almost fell at the sight of what he saw.

He remained frozen for a few seconds, staring, perplexed, tongue tied. Then from nowhere the most beautiful words, flowed out of his mouth,

“This is now bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh;

She shall be called woman for she was taken out of man”

Genesis 2:23

Earth’s first poem!

And there, in the heart of God’s presence, the first marriage took place. It was magnificent.

God was the father who walked the bride down the aisle.

God was the priest that solemnized the vows.

God was the audience that witnessed the beautiful ceremony.

God was the creator of this beautiful masterpiece called marriage.

And that night, the first night, two people who had never sat in a premarital class, never read a book on ‘what to do when she’s finally in your arms’, never downloaded videos from Google on sex 101 and 10 tips for great marriage- that first night, the most beautiful love-making took place.

The presence of God was their honey moon resort. The Holy Spirit was the teacher and guide. And He watched as they enjoyed this beautiful creation he had made for them- sex.

It was pure, free of the perversion that the world has made it to be.

It was selfless and satisfying, with the man laying down himself to please his wife, and the woman laying down herself to please the husband.

It was a hub of deep intimacy where they each sought to know each other both physically, emotionally and spiritually. There was no rush, there were no bouts of guilt, no distraction, no fear.

God probably cheered them on, though of course they didn’t hear a thing:-D . They were busy drinking from each other’s wells.  And he was proud and pleased by them.

Friends, God is perfection, and everything He created was good until man ruined it. But even so, hope still wasn’t lost. He has restored Eden through Jesus Christ. Eden is the presence of God and through Christ you and I can have a life like the one in Eden centered in the presence of God!

We don’t need the pathetic lessons that the world offers. The world says that perversion, sex before marriage, adultery, multiple partners, homosexuality is what is satisfies but it’s a lie! Pure folly.

Stolen waters might be sweet but like Proverbs 9:17-18 says, those indulging in this forbidden things have no idea that they are headed to the grave.

I want a marriage like the 1st marriage.

Where I’m walked down the aisle by a smiling Jesus holding my hand. Where my marriage is born and bred in the presence of God. Where my future hubby and I are taught by Him and experience marriage, intimacy and sex as he intended it to be. Where we live a life of laying down our lives for each other as Jesus did for us.

And even before that, I want to ‘sleep’ like Adam and remain resting in His arms as He prepares me and my mate for each other. This thing of trying out 1000 dates trying to find the ‘one’ isn’t God’s plan. He desires that we rest in His arms, eating and dancing with Him, finding satisfaction in Him and in His own time, He will bring the one.

“Matthew 6:33,

Seek the kingdom of God and all its righteousness and all this other things shall be added unto you”
